I found out quite by accident that there is a train you can ride in the Smoky Mountains at the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad. I would like to take the old guy and do this on one of our trips to Gatlinburg, he’s never been on a train, and I think it would be fun!
The train departs from Bryson City, NC which is about two hours southwest of Gatlinburg. Go through the park to Cherokee, NC then west.
You can schedule a train ride weekends now through March. Then in April it looks like full speed ahead – they pretty much do trips every day through to late fall.
If you take a ride on the train, or have been on one of these trips, leave a reply and let us know what you think. Thanks!
